Coastal Landscapes
A journey through the Eastham marshes must begin with the Great Marsh of Eastham, a bayside marsh bordering the First Encounter Beach, the largest beach on Eastham's flats. The other marsh I return to over and over again is Nauset Marsh on the ocean side, which encompasses the Fort Hill area, part of the National Seashore. The marshland surrounding the Audubon Bird Sanctuary on the Eastham/Wellfleet border is, for me, a newly discovered artistic opportunity. Most of the paintings in this gallery are all of these three marshes, paintings of certain small tributaries and riverheads that flow through the marshlands and empty either into the bay or the ocean, since Eastham encompasses both bodies of water.
